American Sewing Guild

Members have access to both the National ASG website and local ASG websites which provides a plethora of information. Take advantage of this list of benefits and countless more by becoming a member of the American Sewing Guild today.

Neighborhood Groups

Each Neighborhood Group meets once a month and welcomes all members whether you come to the meeting every month or once a year.

Educational Workshops

Workshops are offered to enhance our sewing skills, our sewing environment, or our sewing creativity. Past workshops include: Working with dressforms, notions cubes, Letty bags, sweatshirt jackets, and garment bags.

Events

Enjoy the social benefits of learning and sharing fun events with other sewists. Spring and fall seminars with well know industry speakers/authors/professionals; Fashion show; Luncheons; All Day Sit and Sew; Couture Workshop; Fabric Sale; Annual Conference; Bus Tours and Trips. Additional Event Details

Periodicals

Stay up-to-date with latest and greatest happenings in the industry, locally and nationally. Members receive our local newsletter “Thread Line” bimonthly via email or US mail. Member advertising is free for sewing related items up to five lines. Members also receive, the National ASG magazine “Notions”. This magazine is published quarterly. The popular “Threads” magazine can be purchase with a group order for a considerable savings.

Community Service

Members have the opportunity to be an active participant in the National ASG charity project in addition to having the opportunity to support local charities through neighborhood group projects. A workshop is held once a month to make tote bags for Mary House (part of Loaves and Fishes). Fabric is provided or members can bring their own. Each neighborhood group can choose their own charity to support. Philanthropy is a large part what the ASG stands for. The National ASG also recognizes the generosity of many of the members who work on projects outside the neighborhood groups and National projects.

Education

Members have access to a variety of sewing related library books and hands on tips and techniques. Each neighborhood group has a library based on the genre of the group. Members are not limited to any specific genre. Members can request and check out any book in the Chapter library. Neighborhood groups usually have an educational presentation or demo based on the experience and / or requests from that group. National ASG website regularly invites all members to a free live on-line webinar. Members can chat and/or ask questions with the speaker. The webinars are recorded and posted to the National ASG site for members who weren’t able to be there live or to see it again.

Discounts

Many local and internet sites will honor the ASG membership and give a discount on purchases. Discounts vary and may change without notice. A few local and website shops that offer discounts are as follows: Meissner’s Sewing and Learning Center, Hi Fashion Fabrics, Nancy’s Notions, Indygo Junction and many more. Sew & Show

Get inspiration and motivation by seeing what other members are sewing. Members bring their finished items to the neighborhood group meetings to show and share with other sewists. Members learn about the fabric and material used, where to find the pattern and the challenges encountered. Members get great gift giving ideas from Show and Share sessions.

Sewist Challenge

The Sacramento chapter and National ASG will challenge members to think outside the box and expand their sewing knowledge/skills. The Sacramento chapter has a yearly challenge with specific criteria for each month.
